Samuel Ray Turner, age 75, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away on Tuesday November 28, 2023, at his residence.
Samuel was born in Hazard, Kentucky on February 24, 1948, to the late James Turner and Laura Turner Statzer. He grew up with his grandparents the late James and Elizabeth Turner. After graduating Hazard High School, he went on to join the US Navy where he served in Vietnam. After leaving the Navy, Samuel went on to work several different positions that helped to lead him to his final job with the Office of Surface Mining.
Samuel was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and to give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. Family time was important to Samuel. He was also passionate outdoorsman who loved to fish and golf. If he wasn't spending time with his family, he was out catching fish or hitting golf balls until it was dark. Anyone who knew Samuel knew that he was the most loving father, grandfather, and spouse a family could ever hope for or ask to receive.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mildred Turner, two daughters, Debbie Fitzpatrick (Jason) of Boerne, TX, and Mary Parks (Dane) of Georgetown, KY, eight grandchildren, Brooke (Dylan), Amanda (Patrick), Zachary, Austin, Jacob, Colin, Lizzy, and Katie Grace, three great grandchildren, Hayden, Kyson, and Neveah, sisters, Delores Ann Mullins of Littcarr, Carol Statzer of Wise, VA, and Brenda Toohey of Wise, VA.
Visitation will be from 12-2pm on Sunday December 3, 2023, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, 607 Master Street, Corbin, KY, where his funeral service will be held at 2pm with Rev. James Vandy officiating.
