Samya Lasha Strozier

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Samya Lasha Strozier. Born on April 4, 2014, in Lexington, KY, Samya tragically left this world on August 5, 2024, in an unfortunate accident in Corbin, KY. She was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, student, and friend.

Samya was a young soul who touched the lives of all who knew her. As a student at Hunter Hills Elementary in Laurel County, she exhibited a bright spirit and a kind heart. Samya's laughter and infectious smile will be sorely missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her.  She is survived by her loving mother, Danisha Martin, father Nikey Strozier, sister Zariah Jordan, as well as her grandparents, Mike and Leelee Mayfield, Cornell Carter, and Kim Strozier. She is also survived by her great-grandparents, Bethany Taylor, Brenda Griffin, Carolyn Carter, Paul Carter, and Aquila Mayfield Sr, and by many Aunts, Uncles, other Family and many Friends, and including her uncle, Michael Mayfield Jr.

Though Samya's time with us was brief, her memory will forever remain in our hearts. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love of her heavenly father, and by the Angels who she loved. We will carry her spirit with us always.

Samya was preceded in death by her grandfather, Bruce White; great-grandparents, Major and Helen Mayfield, Edward and Nancy Martin, Albert Taylor.

Visitation will be from 12noon until 1pm on Sunday August 18, 2024, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, 607 Master Street, Corbin, KY. Her funeral service will begin at 1pm on Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Avis Thompson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Corn Creek Cemetery in Woodbine, Kentucky.
