Shirley Jacqueline Parman

Shirley J. Parman, age 88, passed away Thursday, September 5, 2024, at the Villages of Lake Highlands senior care center in Dallas, TX.


She was born on January 7, 1936, in Kenvir, KY to William (Bill) and Mabeth

Grant. She was raised and educated in Corbin and is a graduate of Corbin

High School. Shirley and her husband Leroy Parman are registered members

of Central Baptist Church of Corbin, KY.


She married Leroy E. Parman of Keavy, KY on August 5, 1951, in Jellico TN,

honeymooning at Cumberland Falls, KY. Leroy served in the US Army and

the couple were stationed in Honolulu, HI and then went to Ft Sam Houston

TX. Leroy's next duty station took him to West Germany and Shirley joined

him there after the birth of son Bruce in her hometown of Corbin. While in

Germany son Donald was born. Later they were stationed at Fort Hayes OH,

Ft Lee VA, and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington DC. Shirley

returned to Corbin while Leroy was on an unaccompanied Army tour in

Korea.


Their final military assignment station was Ft Carson, CO where Brian was

born. After Leroy's retirement from the Army the family moved to the

suburbs of Detroit, MI to start his second career as a medical professional

with Ford Motor Company in 1968. Following Leroy's retirement from Ford

Motor in 1991 they returned to Corbin KY. Leroy died in Corbin in March of

2005.


Shirley is survived by: son Bruce and wife Donna Okray Parman of Black

Hawk, CO; son Donald and wife Claudette Parman of Lorton, VA; son Brian

and spouse Neal Howard of Dallas, TX; Granddaughters, Kristina M. Parman,

PhD, North Little Rock, AR, Jacquelyn Parman (now Sister Marie Bernadette),

Hollandale, WI and Heather Cooper of Fort Collins, CO; two great

grandchildren: Jake Michael Suchowski and Kate Jean Suchowski of Fort

Collins, CO; and sister Marjorie (Grant) Short-Dunaway, Westland,

MI. Shirley was preceded in death by parents and her siblings: Jean (Grant)

Buttery; Madge (Grant) McCreary; Jesse Grant; and Harold Grant.


Visitation will be held from 1-2pm on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will follow at 2pm with Rev. Greg McClain officiating. 


Following the service, Shirley will be buried next to her husband at the Parman Family Cemetery in Keavy, KY.
