Sylvia Lee Haggard Elliott

August 23, 1921 — February 23, 2015

Our beloved mother, Sylvia Lee Haggard Elliott, age 93, went home to be with our Lord on February 23rd, 2015 at Baptist Health Corbin. She entered this world on August 23rd, 1921, to Tony Roscoe and Clydia Macy Engle Haggard, who preceded her in death. She was the eldest of seven children. Mom was preceded in death by her husband, John Elliott, Jr.; a beloved grandson Allen K. Johnson; sister Elvia (Gerald) Hoskins; brothers Fred Haggard, Melvin (Glenna) Haggard, and Dallas Haggard; a brother-in-law John Vinson; and a sister-in-law Myrtle Haggard. She was also preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Greenbury and Martha Smith Engle, and paternal grandparents Squire and Maggie Wilburn Haggard.
She is survived by her daughters, Janet (Ronnie) Johnson, Genevieve (Garry ) Fox, Linda (Gary) Jackson, and Joan Gabbard; grandchildren, Mickey R. Johnson, Larry Robbins, Michelle (Ray) Osborne, Kristi (Wes) Carlisle, Shanna (Jody) Jaggers, Erika (Chris) McHargue, and Brittney Givens; great-grandchildren, Madison Allen and Lindsey Leann Johnson, Carson Elliott and Maci Lynn Carlisle, Jaxon Christopher and Colt Jonathan McHargue, and Stella Grace Jaggers. All her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She is also survived by a sister, Trucilla Vinson of Corbin; brother, Arville Haggard; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Haggard of Gray and Jenny Haggard of Silver Springs, KY. As a young woman during World War II, Mom worked at defense factories, one of those being Briggs and Stratton in Michigan as a riveter having worked on fighter planes. She said she had to put the rivet in so tightly that a hair could not slide between two pieces. After relocating back to Corbin in the 60’s, she was employed by Elicon until their closure. Mother enjoyed gardening, working in flowers, beekeeping, quilting, but above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
