Tamara Jay Ramsey Hall, 66, of Corbin, Kentucky, passed away March 27th at her home, surrounded by loved ones.
Tamara was born on May 29th, 1955, in Corbin, Kentucky to Paul V. Ramsey and Juanita Brock Ramsey. Tamara graduated from Corbin High School in 1973, where she was well liked and respected by the student body. Tamara was a good student, varsity cheerleader, and served as Homecoming Queen her senior year of high school. Tamara was a loyal friend who maintained lifelong friendships. After high school, Tamara attended the University of Louisville, and then returned to Corbin to be close to family and friends. She was a member of the West Corbin Baptist Church. Utilizing her tenacity, intelligence, and meticulous bookkeeping skills, Tamara was a successful businesswoman and entrepreneur for forty years, co-running multiple family businesses in Corbin, all while raising a family.
Tamara enjoyed being outdoors, tending the flower gardens in her yard, shopping, and trips to the beach, but above all she loved her family. She adored her boys, Damian and Michael. She cheered them on at their ballgames, watched basketball with them on T.V., and made sure they were well-dressed (whether they liked it or not!). During summers, she enjoyed spending time in the backyard pool with her boys, family, and friends; she also enjoyed organizing family vacations. Likewise, her grandchildren loved spending time at her house, swimming, playing card games, and working jigsaw puzzles. As a grandmother, she encouraged them to try new things, from tasting escargot to paddle boarding in the ocean. Tamara rarely missed a grandchild's ballgame. For every birthday, she always made a homemade peanut butter cake or an ice cream cake. After years of doting on four granddaughters, she was excited to have a grandson, followed a few years later by a great grandson.
Because family came first, Tamara liked to host large family gatherings, with the help of her sisters, and paid attention to the details: menus with family favorites (like her mashed potatoes and hot yeast rolls), pretty place settings and tablecloths, and enough comfortable seating for everyone. Her aunt, Betty Comer, recently said, "Tamara always has the best parties," and she was right. Tamara made sure all holidays were special and fun; she created a Christmas Bingo gift exchange that became a favorite family tradition.
Tamara was very proud of her family and wanted them to be proud of her. Tamara led by example and taught her family to be hard-working and honest. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her love, resolve, and kind-hearted nature. Tamara will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Juanita Ramsey. She is survived by her children, Damian (Angela) and Michael (Jessica); five grandchildren, Bayleigh (Taylor), Sydney, Lillie, Chloe, and Huck; a great-grandson, Silas; sisters, Anita Gaylor (Mark Brown) and Marcia Ramsey; and a large extended family.
Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00pm on Friday, April 1st, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held at 3:00pm. Interment will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Knox County.
