Thermon H. Powell

Thermon H. Powell, age 86, of Corbin, passed away on Sunday,  May 1, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington.
Born in Knox County, he was the son of the late Thomas and Lona Sams Powell, and attended the Cornerstone Christian Church. He had worked for B.F. Goodrich in Louisville, and retired from the Corbin Police Dept. Thermon was a WWII U.S. Army veteran and recipient of the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill, Luther, Jim and Ed Powell; three sisters, Delpha Averson, Beulah Steele and Thelma Moore; and children, Joe Powell and Barbara Powell Jasper.
He is survived by his wife, Inezes King Powell; daughter, Alice Hall; grandsons, Steven Powell and Joseph Hall; sisters, Evelyn Eubanks, Mildred Lockhart, and Elizabeth Owens; and two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Ashtlyn Hall, all who mourn his passing.
Funeral service will be held at 2 pm Friday, May 6, at the Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the Corinth Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post 88.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 pm Thursday, May 5, at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral Home, 607 Master Street, Corbin, KY.
