Wayne Baker

November 20, 1931 — June 10, 2020

Logan Wayne Baker, 88, returned to his Heavenly home on June 10th, 2020 after lifelong devotion to God, family and country.
Wayne was born to the late Walter and Thelma Baker in Knox County, Kentucky on November 20, 1931. After graduating from Knox Central High School, he went on to Eastern Kentucky University to receive his bachelors in mathematics and later his Masters in education. He served as both teacher and principal in several institutions in both Kentucky and Ohio where he received numerous awards and accolades. Wayne was an educator at heart. He was kind, soft-spoken and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He was a member of the Richland Christian Church where he enjoyed serving as treasurer for many years. Wayne was very proud of his military service in the United States Army where he served two years overseas during the aftermath of the Korean War. Later he served with VFW post 1410, where he acted as treasurer and took pride in being an active participant of the color guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Thelma Baker; his brothers Louis, Claude and Jessie Baker; and his first wife Betty Ruth Smith-Baker, and a Grandson, Bryan Alan Gehm. He is survived by his wife, Linda Ely Baker; son, Dr. Timothy Wayne Baker and wife Shonnie; daughter, Brenda Baker Gehm and husband Richard; step-son, Marty Taylor and wife Saundra; step-daughter, Paula Felts; Brother, Pete Baker; three Grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eleven great step-grandchildren; and the light of his life, Piper Volter. Funeral services will be held at Vankirk-Grisell Funeral home on Saturday, June 13th, 2020 with visitation from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and funeral services beginning at 4:00 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Pine Hill Cemetery in Corbin, Kentucky, immediately following services.
